The Rotary Club of Kapolei kicked off the new Rotary year with their annual School Supplies Drive on July 14 and 15, 2013, at Kapolei Longs and Kmart.

Club members collected supplies that area residents donated and will deliver them to area schools in time for the beginning of the new academic year for students who can’t afford to buy the necessary supplies for the school year.

The annual drive is part of the Rotary Club of Kapolei’s robust literacy program aimed at helping local students and adults raise achievement-especially for those that are most vulnerable.

The coming year will  also find these Rotarians in third grade classrooms at 10 elementary schools as they donate dictionaries for every child in each third grade class.

Other projects that the club completed last year include: Adult Literacy Tutor training for club members to become adult literacy tutors, stocking a library at an orphanage in the Philippines, Read Aloud sessions every Thursday for kindergartners at Makakilo Elementary School, book donations to Kapolei High School business classes and college scholarships for high school seniors.
