Happy New Year!

Time flies when we're having fun. The 2018-2019 Rotary year is half way over and there is so much to do…right? Right around the corner we have our annual Rotary Foundation events with The Rotary Foundation Vice-Chair Brenda Cressey, Rotarians at Work Day (April 27th) and our District Conference (May 17-19) with Past Rotary International Vice President Jennifer Jones and her husband, doctor and Rotarian, Nick Krayacich. We have RYLA camps across the state and HRYF scholarships to give…so much to do, so little time. Complete calendar is at www.rotaryd5000.org.

So let's recap some of our successes and challenges for the first six months. Our service to both local and global communities continues to be outstanding. Peace Poles in Kona, rebuilding a charter school in Hilo, a new Rotaract Club on Maui, AED's across Kaui, Rotary Gives Thanks – Kupuna Kokua, school dictionaries…to name a few. In international service we span the globe making a difference in the lives of some of the most needy. Today's contributions to The Rotary Foundation will provide needed capital for the future. Thank you. The area where improvement is needed is in club growth. We brought in lots of new members but we lost more. Membership affects everything we do from budgeting to service to fellowship. The answer lies in each and every one of our clubs…in each and every one of us…The theme for February will be: "Share the Heart of Rotary!" Start now by sharing your ideas on our District Website!

January is also National Human Trafficking Awareness month. Rotarians Lyla Berg and Mark Merriam have done an outstanding job improving our knowledge across our state. We see progress on the Serenity Garden on Oahu. Kauai Rotarians are actively seeking to create greater awareness. Thank you!

"Together, we see a world where people unite and take action to create lasting change — across the globe, in our communities, and in ourselves."

Our new vision statement…what does it mean? How am I participating? How am I planning for our Rotary future? I ask each of us to consider these questions and then take action. I know that I am not the same person I was six month ago…this journey has been life changing. I thank you for joining with me…

Peace be with you and Be The Inspiration!
