District Governor Message
Aloha D5000 Ohana,
It's July and the start of a new Rotary year!  Our RI President's Call to Action this year is CREATE LASTING IMPACT.   Everyday Rotarians in Hawai'i make a difference and IMPACT is simply “change that lasts.”  To create “change that lasts,” our leadership team will be spanning the District with these four messages:
  1. Connect with the Mission and People of Rotary - most of us join Rotary to give back to our communities but it's the relationships we make with the people in Rotary that keep us there.  
  2. Look at your Club like your Family -  Looking at your club like family will help create the environment that will help our members feel like they have “found a home” in Rotary.
  3. Forge Strategic Partnerships that Elevate Rotary's Community Engagement - Rotarians are “People of Action” but not everyone knows that.  Every organization wants and needs people of action so we are going to create strategic partnerships.   
  4. Focus on the Mission Not the Money -Rotary is one of the greatest fundraising organizations in the world. The money we give is based on the value we see and that's why Rotarians give so freely of themselves.
To this end, we are launching a new program: ROTARY INTERNATIONAL DISTRICT 5000 – HAWAI`I E OLA MAU SOCIETY.  The E Ola Mau Society recognizes Rotarians who make a personal commitment to Rotary as a lifelong journey of service, fellowship, leadership, and community impact. Inspired by the Hawaiian concept of “E Ola Mau”—to endure and thrive—the Society honors members who affirm their intention to remain engaged in Rotary for as long as they are able, carrying forward Rotary’s values of Service Above Self and strengthening Rotary’s future throughout Hawaiʻi and the Pacific.  Ready to make the pledge?  CLICK HERE

Hurricane season runs to November 30 and with the unusual severe weather the earth has been experiencing, you may want to have a refresher course on preparing ….just in case. 
 
The District has formed a Disaster Advisory Team of volunteer Rotarians, headed by Calvin Hara.  The Team is in the formation stage, but wanted to have a webinar for our members with helpful hints.  Also, if you are a Ham Radio operator, please let the team know.

July 25, Saturday, 9-9:45am-  The Rotary Brand. Learn about the correct use of the Rotary Logo and explore how social media can help get the word out about the good work your club does. 
 
July 25, Saturday, 10-11:30am.  ClubRunner Explained.  Learn from the ClubRunner representative how to improve the club’s website and take advantage of the CR modules.  Need help with bulletins, emails, posting photos?  Ask the expert!  Come with your “how to” questions to learn from the expert. July 30, Thursday, 7pm.  Kosovo Virtual Cultural Exchange.  Kona Sunrise Rotarian Vern Lowrey has organized a virtual exchange with Rotarians in Kosovo.  Find out about their culture and about Vern's experience there.

Aug 8, Saturday, 9-10am- Board Forum.  All club board members are encouraged to share best practices, explore innovative ideas.
 
Rotary’s theme for July is Maternal and Child Health Month. The Rotary Foundation reaches mothers and children in need by giving communities the help and training they need to take control of their own maternal and infant health care.
 
WHAT ARE THE ROTARY FOUNDATION’S GOALS FOR MATERNAL AND CHILD HEALTH? Rotary supports activities and training that improve maternal health and reduce mortality for children under age five. Our projects improve access to care, expand medical services, provide medical equipment, and train health care providers. We can improve the health of mothers and their children by: • Reducing the neonatal and newborn mortality rate • Reducing the mortality and morbidity rate of children under five • Reducing the maternal mortality and morbidity rate • Improving access to essential medical services, trained community health workers, and health care providers • Funding graduate scholarships for career-minded professionals related to maternal and child health
