The East Hawaii Rotary Clubs - South Hilo, Hilo Bay, Hilo, and Volcano - have been partnering up with the Salvation Army to bring much needed supplies to the residents of the Kau area, affected by Hurricane Lala. Rotarians were first asked to pick up meals from the various restaurants and drive them out to the Kau area. When most of the area’s power was restored, the Rotarians were asked to pick up the food and were directed by the Salvation Army to deliver to the Naniloa and/or the Hilo Hawaiian. Many displaced people are being housed there. Rotarians were also tasked to deliver to the Waiakea Villas, which was without power for at least two weeks. The situation remains fluid so the clubs have been working day by day to pivot and adjust as needed.
RC of West Kauai Rotarian Kelsey Hesapene worked tirelessly with others to clear the Kekaha Coast highway for everyone.
Hurricane Lowell hit Kauai hard. Many neighborhoods took serious damage, and there are families in our community facing a long recovery. RC of Hanalei Bay is taking donations to help Kauai communities.
