We were mesmerized by the music of Dr. Sun Hui, Ph.D. She played the Erhu, a two-stringed bowed musical instrument or spike fiddle that is sometimes known in the Western world as the Chinese violin or a Chinese two-stringed fiddle that is about a thousand years older than the violin. It is the most popular of the Chinese huqin family of bowed string instruments. Perhaps no musical instrument is more evocative of China than the erhu even though its origins most likely developed beyond the borders of Chinese culture. It is historically known as the barbarian’s fiddle. She is an Excellence Prize Winner of the National Erhu Competition in Taiwan, Sun has performed throughout Europe and the Americas in many prestigious music venues and in Taiwan’s National Concert Hall and the Taiwan National Opera.

We also enjoyed the music of our very own musicians on guitars and ukuleles, who were jamming together. Waianae Club President Glenn Arakawa performed an original song he wrote. Thank you Robert Jackson for coming up with the idea to do a jam session!
The Taiko Center of the Pacific got us energized Saturday morning with the amazing drummers and the Asian Lion Dancer brought us luck and good fortune Saturday nigh.
Activities included presentation of over 300 ‘Care Bags’ for our Vets that were given to U.S. Vets Barbers Point We also viewed a stunning and award-winning documentary film “Removed by Force” that was created by our own, Ryan Kawamoto. Fun events included a Golf, Pickleball and Horseshoes/Cornhole competition. Our House of Friendship was full of ideas to share with clubs and great items to purchase along with our live and silent auctions. Our Wine and Whiskey Fellowship had great events that were enjoyed by many after our delicious evening meals that were provided by “Stacey’s Mom Catering”.
